The objective of ‘The Song Haul’ is to focus attention on the cornerstone of the music world, the song itself, while giving a platform to new and established artists of southern Ontario. The filming events are designed to provide an intimate concert setting for the musical talent to perform while presenting the television audience with an opportunity to get to know the songwriters better through guided conversation with the host. Interview and performance are edited together to produce an in-depth portrait of the artist and their songs.
The Song Haul came about in the spring of 2006 through the collaboration of Jack Smith and Cindy Dell. In the late 90's Cindy hosted a songwriters show series entitled 'Songwriters' Circle' which featured approximately 30 songwriters of southern Ontario and was shot over a 3 year period. Jack Smith, a cameramen on that show, and Cindy Dell are Jacyn Productions, the producers of 'The Song Haul' in cooperation with Amtelecom cable 5, Barry Grainger and Bill Meems. Mark "Worm" Sinkowski is the host, Brian Stewart directs and Ian Madge is the audio engineer. With a camera crew of five (Jim Coppens, Dan Tyrrell, Jack Smith, Matthew Craggs and Morris Shepherd) the series is filmed at the Vittoria Community Center and other venues in the Simcoe area.
